The Baleares government has closed down machines at clubs in Magaluf which dispense the latest trend in shots on Mallorca, of inhaling alcohol into the lungs.
Dubbed as ‘Oxy Shots’, which are sold for around 4 €, the alcohol is mixed with oxygen gas which vaporises the alcohol, which is then inhaled via a tube inserted into the mouth. The effects of the alcohol are felt much more quickly as it is absorbed directly into the blood system.
A waiter on Magaluf’s famous Calle Punta Ballena told ABC newspaper that the oxy shots have been sold in most of the bars on the street for the past three or four years.
