Two adult chimpanzees managed to escape from a zoo in Jaén province on Monday, the Zoo World Center in Mancha Real.
Bou-Bou was coaxed back in shortly afterwards, but the other chimp, Bongo, who stands one and half metres high and is six times stronger than a human, spent five hours calmly wandering around the streets and countryside of Mancha Real before he was captured.
There were no incidents on his stroll around the town and he was finally brought down with tranquilising darts. Diario de Jaén notes that two darts were needed to put him to sleep.
