British woman accused of causing fatal Alicante accident which killed two of her friends

British woman who jumped a red light on the main southern access to Alicante City on Monday night faces charges of involuntary manslaughter, after causing a fatal accident. The two passengers, two women from Britain aged 71 and 62, who were travelling in the rear of her rented car died when it was hit by a bus.

The 59 year old driver and her front seat passenger, aged 58, suffered serious injuries.

EFE reports that the accident happened on the Avenida de Elche shortly before 10.30pm when the car jumped a light while attempting to turn across the traffic and was hit in the rear by a number 27 bus. The bus driver and the only other occupant of the vehicle both escaped serious injury.

The accused appeared before a judge on Tuesday and was released with charges.
