34 mafia chiefs have been arrested in Spain in the last ten years

National Police have said the Italian mafia is leading the traffic in cocaine in Spain. The police say that 24 different clans are in operation.

Over the past ten years, 34 Napolitano Camorra, Calabrian N’drangueta, and Cosa Nostra leaders have been caught in Spain, attracted here by the climate, and the cultural and linguistic similarities to home.

Police sources told 20minutos.es that, after Italy, Spain is country where most mafia chiefs have found refuge.

‘While Germany is the country for illicit money laundering for the Italian mafias and serves as a pick up point for the sale of arms to Eastern Europe, Spain is the operations base for bringing the drugs into Europe from Latin America’.
